Blue Parrot not reopening, instead a new hotel will stand

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The long-standing club icon, The Blue Parrot, will not be reopening.

Ricardo del Valle Prieto of the Bars and Nightclubs Association, says that once the investigation from the January shooting has been completed, a new project in that space will start. It has been announced that in place of The Blue Parrot will stand a new hotel.

The hotel, which has not been named, will stretch across a large part of the beachfront estate and will include a hosting center and concert area. An entrepreneur purchased the club two years ago and has been waiting for the current lease to expire.

Similar to Mezcalinna and Hidden Bar, Valle Prieto says that the leases for those two clubs have already expired and was the reason for their closing. He added that work on the new hotel is expected to begin in about four months with an extensive renovation of 12th Street.

The new project is expected to open toward the end of 2018.
