Guadalajara, Jalisco — Former US President Bill Clinton and Mexico’s entrepreneur Carlos Slim attended the opening of the 2018 Caribbean Series that will play until February 8 in Guadalajara.
Both men were given the chance to throw the first ball to Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Álvarez, the third was presented in the field of Charros de Jalisco by businessman Carlos Bremer.
During the inauguration, the national anthems of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Mexico were played along with a show that included a mariachi band and fireworks.
After the opening ceremony of the 60th edition of the series, the Tomateros de Culiacán, Mexican champions will face the Criollos de Caguas monarchs of Puerto Rico, who will defend their title of the 2017 Caribbean Series that was played in Culiacán.
Hours before in the game with which the series started, the Alamas of Granma Cubans defeated the Venezuelan Caribes of Anzoategui 4-6.
