Beach shooting outside Puerto Morelos hotel leaves three injured

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Three people were injured outside a Puerto Morelos hotel Saturday after being shot at by unknown men on the beach.

Two women and one man were taken to hospital in Playa del Carmen after they were hit with bullets from men on the beach. The shooting occurred outside the Ocean Coral Turquesa Resort in Puerto Morelos when two beach masseurs and one tour salesman were hit.

Preliminary reports say the three workers were attacked Saturday at 4:00 p.m. when a pair of unidentified individuals opened fire on the three tourism service providers. The shots were fired over an alleged use of land threat by organized crime members.

The three workers were nearing the end of their shifts and had just begun a meeting when the shooting happened. Two men apparently walking along the beach took aim at the beach massage spa owner. She was reportedly shot three times in the legs.

The other two workers were also shot in the legs before their attackers fled. Witnesses called Emergency 911. Municipal officers arrived along with paramedics.

There were no arrests. The attackers allegedly arrived and fled in a taxi.
