Beach access road for Felipe Carrillo Puerto started in Sian Ka’an

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Work on the construction of a road for beach access continues in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The project, which is set for February completion, has now advanced to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

Personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) are currently working on the reopening of the road to Vigía Chico that will allow direct beach access for municipal residents.

On Sunday afternoon, army personnel entered the jungle with heavy equipment and began leveling land. That portion of the road will remain unpaved, providing access to the coast.

When finished, the jungle road will be five meters wide along all 33 kilometers that will run through the reserve. It is being constructed on ejido lands that was granted as a loan for the project, which is scheduled to be finished on February 29, 2024.

The entire road will be 55 kilometers in length with the first 22 paved.

The project, which began at the end of August, includes the construction of a museum, a tourist stop, maintenance of the Vigía Chico lighthouse and the creation of a public beach with bathrooms and parking, among other infrastructure.
