Authorities warn of unauthorized agencies selling Russia world cup tickets

Cancun, Q.R. — Federal authorities are warning consumers about buying Russia 2018 World Cup tickets from unauthorized online agencies, adding that the inspected Cancun outlets were verified.

The Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Federal Protection of Consumers) say they have found several agencies throughout the country selling world cup tickets without authorization.

Through a national operation by Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco), they inspected 278 travel agencies selling the 2018 Russia world cup football tickets. Of the agencies selling the tickets in Cancun, all checked out to be ligament.

However, they did find numerous irregularities in other states across Mexico. In total, Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor said they suspended 25 agencies for selling the tickets without authorization and handed out 44 sanctions.

According to Francisco Xavier Rosado Ortiz, Profeco delegate for Quintana Roo, so far there have not been any consumer complaints regarding the sale of tickets to the World Cup.

He says as for the sanctioned agencies, they are located in Coahuila, Colima, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Puebla and Querétaro, all of whom were fined for selling the tickets without authorization.

He explained that in September, Profeco signed an agreement with the company Match Hospitality, which is the designated ticket seller for the International Federation of Football Association as exclusive operator of hospitality packages for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
