Arrest warrant granted for Borge’s financial operator

Cancun, Q.R. — An arrest warrant against Roberto Borge’s financial operator has been granted by a Chetumel judge.

A warrant for the arrest of Edgar Manuel Méndez Montoya, financial operator of Roberto Borge, has been issued. Méndez Montoya is alleged to have been involved in the sale of properties for under market value, among other crimes.

One of the crimes of which he is accused is for acquiring six properties for a total of 11.5 million peso when the properties had market values (at the time) in excess of 189.7 million peso. He has also allegedly purchased 395 hectares of undervalued IPAE property in the area of Xahuayxol, south of Mahahual, at a cost of 50 cents per square meter.

Manuel Méndez, 35, was the administrator of expenses of Borge governor’s campaign, which saw him win million dollar public work contracts under his company Grupo Desarrollar Rumega SA de CV, which was created in 2012, a month after Borge became governor.

The arrest warrant against Édgar Méndez Montoya, who was one of the main foremen and contractors of former governor Roberto Borge Angulo, also includes the alleged crimes of embezzlement and money laundering.
