Argentinean man suffers heart attack after cenote tour

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — An Argentinean man has died of an apparent heart attack after spending the day at a Riviera Maya cenote with a tour group.

The incident occurred Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. on a nature trail leading from the Maya Underworld cenote back to the tour van for his return to Playa del Carmen.

The man, who has been reported to be around 60 years old, had spent the day in the cenote on a tour when he suffered a heart attack walking on the trail back to the tour van.

Friends of the man quickly summoned help from cenote staff. Civil Protection personnel, who were onsite, attempted CPR but the man had already died. They made the request for an ambulance who arrived with paramedics who confirmed the time of death.
