Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Another stranded dolphin has been found in the waters off Isla Mujeres at the Yucatan port of Telchac. This latest rescue is of an older dolphin who was found severely dehydrated and with wounds.
The dolphin was transferred by staff of the Secretariat of the Navy and the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa) from Yucatan to the island’s Tortugranja facility to receive assistance from marine mammal specialists.
Carlos Barranco García, director of Environment and Ecology, reports that the mammal has low weight, dehydration and an injury to the right side, and is currently receiving attention from specialists in marine area of Dolphin Discovery.
