Cancun, Q.R. – Another makeshift boat carrying illegal Cubans has landed on the shores of Quintana Roo.
Around 6:00 a.m., local authorities were alerted to the arrival of a homemade boat that landed at Isla Mujeres, several kilometers from Cancun’s mainland. On the floating device were 12 Cuban passengers that consisted of nine men and three women.
The boat, made of wood, steel and rubber, used a large piece of cloth as a sail to travel the 18 days it took to land on Mexican territory.
Those aboard the craft were secured by local Municipal Police and transported to the National Migration Institute to confirm their status before being sent back to Cuba.
