Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The annual International Fundadores 2017 Riviera Maya catch and release fishing challenge is set.
From April 14 to 16, Playa del Carmen will host nearly 60 boats that will take to the Caribbean Sea to beat previous catch records. The cost to register is 3,500 peso per boat. Fishing derby participants meet at 7:00 p.m. at Yan Ten restaurant prior to the Captian’s Dinner on the eve of April 14.
At 8:00 a.m. on the 15th, captains and their fishing crew set sail, returning with their catches at 3:00 p.m. Jose Cipriano Cardenas, president of the organizing committee, says the purpose of the derby is to promote the discipline and to give recognition to previous pioneers.
Previous catches include blue marlin, white marlin, wahoo, sierra, dorado, atun and barracuda. Last year, 46 boats participated in the derby.
