AMLO announces federal appointments including new Fonatur head of Maya Train project

Mexico City, Mexico — On Tuesday, Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced new federal appointments. One of those included that of Rogelio Jiménez Pons, who is now the new Undersecretary of Transportation of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

Through a statement, the government of Mexico also announced the appointment of Javier May Rodríguez as the new general director of the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur), replacing Rogelio Jiménez Pons who held the position since December of 2019. Rodriguez will now head the Maya Train project.

Through the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, AMLO also appointed Ariadna Montiel Reyes as Secretary of Welfare, María del Rocío García Pérez, Undersecretary of Welfare and Carlos Morán Moguel as the general director of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) Benito Juárez.

The announcements were made virtually since AMLO tested positive for covid-19 earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Quintana Roo governor Carlos Joaquin, also announced adjustments to his cabinet.
