Americans held responsible for damages after hitting motorcycle before rolling their Cozumel rental

Cozumel, Q.R. — A group of American tourists are being held responsible for damages after rolling their rental vehicle on the island of Cozumel. On Thursday, island officers happened upon the vehicle rollover along the eastern side at around 1:00 p.m.

Laying on its roof in seaside vegetation was the lime green rental Jeep. On the highway, police also located a crushed motorcycle. According to preliminary reports, the driver of the Jeep, 27-year-old Emerich V from Georgia, lost control due to excessive speed.

He collided with a parked motorcycle before rolling his rental into the brush. Passing officers stopped to assist. At least one woman from inside the Jeep was transferred to hospital.

According to the Jeep rental company, damages to the vehicle were covered, however, the group did have to pay 10,000 peso to the 47-year-old female owner of the motorcycle, Ana A.R., for damages.
