Coba, Yucatan — An American tourist fell Thursday afternoon while climbing the Nohoch Mul pyramid at Coba.
The woman, who was climbing the highest pyramid in the region, fell from the 42 meter ruin when she slipped while making her way toward its plateau. Fortunately, the woman was not at the top, however, she did tumble down a portion of the 120 stairs where she managed to grab onto a safety rope to break the remainder of her fall.
The American woman, who was not identified, was tended to by paramedics and admitted to hospital suffering broken ribs among other injuries.
In December 2017, a US man fell from the Nohoch Mul pyramid, sustaining serious injuries after slipping about 10 meters into is ascent. He too, was hospitalized.
