La Huasteca, San Luis Potosí — The Secretary of Tourism of San Luis Potosí has reported the death of an American tourist who died while kayaking along the Río Gallinas.
On Thursday, the agency said the American, identified only as Ben K., died while on a November 3 kayaking trip with seven others on the Rio Gallinas. During the trip, the man fell into the water and was swept away by the strong current.
His body was located along the river November 4 by a search team of volunteers and local officials from various dependencies.
Authorities continue to caution visitors to the area about taking on the river without a specialized guide, acknowledging several accidents that have occurred in the past due to the river’s strength.
