American man arrested for homicide in death of wife in Cancun hotel

Cancun, Q.R. — An American man has been arrested for alleging killing his wife in a Cancun hotel room.

The incident took place at the Grand Oasis hotel at 16.5 kilometer of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Police were called to the hotel Monday evening when hotel security received a report from guests that an escalated argument could be heard coming from one of the rooms.

Emergency 911 received a call from hotel security for the Grand Oasis at around 5:40 p.m. saying that they had found a deceased woman inside a hotel room with a man. The deceased woman has been identified as 25-year-old Shauna-Lee Moodie and the male as 25-year-old Clive Anthony Edmonson Jr. From Hawaii.

Reasons for the attack are not yet known, although the Attorney General’s Office reported that they have witnesses of the couple being heard arguing. The hotel security chief went to the room to investigate the noise complaint made by guests.

When he arrived, he knocked on the door but did not get a response. Upon requesting support to enter the room, a woman was found lying deceased on the floor with a man also sitting on the floor.

Unofficially, reports say the woman died of strangulation. Her body was taken to the local forensic facilities for an autopsy.

The American tourist was arrested and remains under guard at the Public Prosecutor’s Office. He is being charged with intentional homicide.
