American arrested in Tulum for sexual abuse, rape

Tulum, Q.R. – An American was arrested yesterday in Tulum on charges of sexual abuse and rape against minors.

Nicholas James Faciane, a 34-year-old native of Abbeville, Louisiana who had an outstanding warrant in the US for his arrest, was placed in handcuffs by Municipal Police around 1:30 p.m. on October 6.

Local police received a tip that Faciane, who allegedly fled the US three years earlier, was hiding in the small resort town of Tulum. His charges date back to September 2010.

Faciane faces 13 counts of sexual abuse and rape against a female between the ages of 13 and 17 in the United States. In 2008, Faciane was charged with six counts of indecent behavior with a minor.

He was handed over to the National Migration Institute (INM) for deportation to authorities at the US Embassy.
