Ambulance veers off road, catches fire outside Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — The driver of an ambulance who was trying to avoid another vehicle, lost control and overturned, causing his unit to catch fire.

A Costamed ambulance veered off the road apparently in an attempt to dodge another vehicle, when it ended up in the ditch and caught fire along the Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway.

Reports say that the ambulance driver was trying to dodge a car that was turning onto a secondary road, however, both vehicles made contact anyway. While the car received minor bumper damage, the ambulance burned completely.

The ambulance was reportedly on its way to Mahahual in response to an emergency when the accident happened. The medical team inside the ambulance managed to get out safely before it caught fire.

They sustained minor injuries. Firemen from Tulum arrived to extinguish the burning vehicle. The ambulance was completely destroyed.
