Cancun, Q.R. — Airbnb says they will expand the Experiences in Mexico program to the state of Quintana Roo with an initial variety of at least 20 unique experiences to show the most authentic parts of the state.
In a statement, Airbnb said that they are promoting the experiences since Cancun and Riviera Maya are the second most important region for them after Mexico City.
The online vacation rental platform explained that among the available Airbnb Experiences will be the MUSA Underwater Art Museum in Cancun where 516 sunken art pieces have become colonized by coral.
Also included are a tour of a virgin lagoon on a paddle board and other events such as horseback riding. The platform says that activities in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum will be the first in the state to be included in the more than 60 cities in 26 countries where the Airbnb Experiences are offered.
The expansion to the rest of the Mexican Republic will eventually be part of the Airbnb Experiences program. Currently, there are more than 100 Experiences promoted for Mexico City that reflect the richness and cultural diversity of Mexico.
Airbnb said in their statement that due to the importance of the Cancun, Riviera Maya region, the state of Quintana Roo is the first outside Mexico City to be included in Experiences.
In April, a report from Airbnb said Mexico’s Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya was the power vacation spot for the Easter holiday season, making it the reservation leader in Latin America.
