Aeroméxico announces new air route between Cancun and São Paulo, Brazil

Cancun, Q.R. — Aeroméxico announced that from December 15 to April 17, 2022, it will operate a new air route between Cancun and São Paulo, Brazil, with a frequency of three weekly flights.

“This new route represents not only the increase in international air connectivity, but also the growth of one of our strategic markets,” said Governor Carlos Joaquín.

For this route, the company will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with an approximate capacity of 270 passengers per flight, which represents about 2,000 airplane seats per week to serve the Brazilian market, which, even in the midst of the pandemic, reports positive numbers compared to 2019.

Adolfo Castro Rivas, general director of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), highlighted that during 2020, from São Paolo to Cancun, more than 83,000 passengers arrived. He indicated that so far this yeae, they have already counted 105,000 passengers. He said by the end of the year, they expect around 180,000 passengers into Cancun.

In complex times for world aviation, “Cancun and the State of Quintana Roo have been a success story,” said Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Aeroméxico, and today at Grupo Aeroméxico, we are an airline with a greater capacity for Cancun than we were before the pandemic.

He indicated that by summer 2021, the airline will close 40 percent above the capacity it registered in 2019, and even operating up to six or seven flights in Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner “we have shown the world that we can fly a Dreamlinder from Mexico City to Cancun.”

Darío Flota Ocampo, general director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), affirmed that tourism arriving in the Mexican Caribbean continues to recover and national tourism is already above the numbers registered in 2019.

“In the case of the United States, it also reports numbers higher than the arrivals of 2019. There are already more than 45 airports in the United States with direct flights to Cancun.”

“This has made it possible to compensate for the lack of flights that have not been able to be reestablished with Europe. Brazil is the only market in the United States and Mexico that have positive numbers compared to 2019,” he said.
