Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — UPDATED: On Sunday, a woman was shot and killed at a spa along Fifth Avenue of Playa del Carmen.
The women was shot inside the spa around 12:00 noon in the city’s center. Municipal and state police quickly arrived finding the woman lying on the ground. She was being tended to by staff who had already called for an ambulance.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the woman at the scene. Police cordoned off the area to await for investigative experts.
On Sunday night, Public Safety officer, Jesus Alberto Capella Ibarra, released video footage that showed two people suspected of being responsible for the death of the woman or at least having information about her death.
Ibarra added that on June 20 of 2017, a police operation at the same business resulted in the discovery of drugs which led to the arrest of several people.
He adds that in the video, the men are believed to be sellers of tours in Playa del Carmen. They were seen on the surveillance video. After the shooting, one of the two men quickly changes clothes before fleeing the spa with the second man.
UPDATE: The women who was shot inside the Butterfly House spa in central Playa del Carmen has been identified as 24-year-old Alejandra Luna Concha, whose family is involved in local controversial politics. This recent death has been referred to as “account settling” between groups.
