Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – In a surprise move, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) increased its industrial tariff by another 2.54 percent. This is the second rate increase in 30 days.
In a press release, CFE said that the price of electricity for industry and trade will increase between 2.54 percent and 3.36 percent beginning August 1, compared to the price that was in effect a month earlier.
In their statement issued Monday, they said the tariff adjustment for this month “Is related to increases in prices of fuels to generate electricity,” including natural gas, the main fuel used by the company.
CFE said that they have about 35.5 million customers, adding that “Electricity tariffs for the domestic sector with low consumption will remain unchanged into August 2016.”
Electricity tariff increases are calculated by the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP).
