A curfew will be set for residents of Cozumel, says its mayor

Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel’s mayor says a curfew will be imposed on island residents in coming days due to the emergence of Mexico into Phase II of COVID-19.

Head of the municipality of Cozumel, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis says that now that the country is officially in Phase II, the decision has been made to establish a curfew on the island, which he adds, will be implemented in coming days.

“In the next few day, a curfew will be established on the island. Initially, citizens will be asked not to leave their homes after 23:00 and if they ignore it, they will be subject to administrative sanctions.

“Cozumel has shown that together, respecting and applying preventive measures, we can fight against this evil that today has the entire world in check. I urge you to continue working together to get ahead of this contingency. We have already passed Phase I without positive cases, so let’s continue like this, following health recommendations,” he explained.

He added that if necessary, social measures will be tightened pointing out that as in the rest of the state, the reinforcement of sanitary measures are important in order to counteract the effects of the global pandemic.
