Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Approximately 80 new eating establishments have been opened in Playa del Carmen already this year, says the head of the National Restaurant Chamber.
The confidence of investments in the restaurant sector is manifested with the opening of about 80 new businesses this year, said the director of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Conditional Food Industry of Playa del Carmen, Manuel García Maldonado.
He said that during the present year, investments in the restaurant sector is more than 25 percent higher than in relation to 2016. He explained that the highlighted investor confidence in the restaurant sector is from government security actions to locals and foreigners.
While he did not give a specific figure, he did say that in the course of 2017 some 80 restaurants have opened, both large and small adding that during the month of December, another three will open their doors.
During the low season of September and October, he noted several restaurants took advantage of the timing and remodeled and are now ready for the arrival of the tourist high season.
García Maldonado said that the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Conditional Food Industry of Playa del Carmen delegation brings together more than 200 restaurants.
He estimates that during last month of 2017, occupancy rates in restaurants will be above 95 percent.
