Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — UPDATED: The Office of the Attorney General of the State continues to investigate the death of an 11-year-old girl in Playa del Carmen.
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Attention to Crimes Against Women has taken up the case after an 11-year-old Guatemalan girl was found murdered Thursday.
Head of the Crimes Against Women unit, Guadalupe Reyes Pinzón, said that they are carrying out all areas of research to find who is responsible, adding that they are still waiting for the autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary information says the girl was raped and beaten at a home in the Colosio neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, however, authorities have not confirmed the allegations. They have said that forensic experts found marks on her neck that suggest suffocation, but further details were not released.
The body of the child was found by her parents in their house on Calle 58, between Avenidas 15 and 20 of the populated colony Luis Donaldo Colosio.
Authorities are still investigating.
UPDATE: The 11-year-old girl found dead in a home in Playa del Carmen died from asphyxiation by hanging. An autopsy revealed the girl hung herself. Guadalupe Reyes Pinzón, head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Attention of Crimes against Women, confirmed that the girl had only one injury, which was found around her neck and was not beaten or sexually abused.
With the help of a translator, the brother of the girl said she became angry after her parents locked her in a room while they went out to work. When she was unable to open a window to reach the outside, she became even more upset.
