100 kilos of drugs seized at Playa del Carmen crossing bound for Cozumel

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man attempting to cross from Playa del Carmen to the island of Cozumel was arrested after police found drugs in his vehicle.

The 22-year-old, who has been identified as Victor MGC from Valladolid, Yucatan, was searched Tuesday morning. The search and seizure took place at 7:50 a.m. by members of the federal police at the inspection point of the Maritime terminal, Punta Venado.

Upon inspection, officers found 100 kilos of marijuana stashed inside a Quintana Roo-plated Dodge Caliber. They say inside the car they found four large wrapped packages that inside, contained marijuana.

The man was arrested and the vehicle and drugs seized.

In June, a woman was arrested at the Playa del Carmen ferry terminal after she was found carrying 43 kilos of drugs bound for Cozumel.

In July, three people were arrested on Cozumel for carrying a suitcase of drugs.
