Last updated on January 27, 2018

Cancun, Q.R. – Ten cases of the Zika Virus have been recorded in the state of Quintana Roo.

In the past week, five cases of the virus were detected on Isla Cozumel. Secretary of Health, Juan Ortegón Pacheco, says that another case was found in a resident of Othón P. Blanco.

Reports show 14 recorded cases in Campeche and 29 in the Yucatan state, 10 of which were detected in pregnant women.

The zika creates similar symptoms to dengue and is usually not lethal. However, the greatest risk is for pregnant women due to its association with microcephaly.

The sudden outbreak of the virus is being blamed on recent heavy rains.
