Playa del Carmen taxi van catches fire, burns on highway

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A taxi van traveling along the the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum highway caught fire and completely burned causing firefighters and police to rush to the scene of the accident.

The fire occurred along the Agrarian Reform-Puerto Juárez section Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum highway with reports saying no one other than the driver was inside the van at the time of the fire. The taxi, which belonged to the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Syndicate of Playa del Carmen, suddenly began to smoke just before catching fire.

By the time help arrived, the van was already completely consumed by flames. Firemen did however, control the fire and put out the flames without incident. Police and Civil Protection also arrived. Reports say they had yet to determine the cause of the fire.

There were no injuries reported, however, the taxi was completely destroyed.
